Out of the box, a Tavor rifle comes with a meprolight sight attached directly to the barrel using a proprietary mounting system. The military version frequently uses the MARS sight, which features an integral laser system that zeroes with the red dot. The civilian version uses a light amplifier similar to an ACOG's illumination that is generally considered "too dim" in daylight.
I don't miss it.
Instead my Tavor came with a third party optics rail that still clamps to the barrel, but offers a section of picatinny rail up top. Flip up iron sights are built into the gas block and front hand-guard, with a spot of tritium in the front sight.
Its a good setup. Allowing for a variety of standard optics on the little section of picatinny. Its almost perfectly the length of an eotech, although operating the holo-sight's controls around the rear iron sight can be a hassle.
